The Andoque

Colombian Amazon — an indigenous community partnering with Dulce Amazónica

The Andoque are a small Amazonian people from the Caquetá river region in the Colombian Amazon. Like the Huitoto, Bora, and Muinane, the Andoque were subjected to the extreme violence of the rubber boom and suffered devastating population loss. They are among the peoples whose survival through that period represents an extraordinary act of cultural continuity under conditions of systematic destruction.

Andoque oral tradition carries knowledge of the forest, of ceremony, and of the relationships between people and other living beings that has sustained community life through generations of disruption. Their material culture — including artisan work in natural materials — reflects a deep understanding of the ecological systems of the Caquetá basin.

At Dulce Amazónica, the Andoque are represented among the peoples of the Putumayo and Caquetá whose presence in Guatapé brings the reality of the Colombian Amazon into direct, dignified encounter with visitors from Colombia and the world.

This community is one of many Indigenous peoples whose presence, knowledge, and artisan work are at the heart of what Dulce Amazónica does. Their ambassador brings that presence here directly — to Guatapé, Colombia.
